I am loving this book! Each day after our math lesson, we read a page from this book. It had been a gateway to arithmetical adventure. Today it had us discussing and researching the 4th dimension. It has also led us to experimenting with abstract Calculus concepts, studying the statistics of dropping toothpicks, magic squares, and prime numbers.
The book is arranged in chronological order with a math story on each page and a gorgeous photo to accompany the story. The book begins with a few stories about how some animals can count and travels through the centuries touching base on various mathematical discoveries, mathematicians, and concepts over time comprising around 500 stories in all. Though the book touches on some complex concepts, I’ve not found anything that my eleven-year-old and I couldn’t grasp at some level. The best part of the book however is how it evokes our curiosity and entices us to explore further with an activity or investigation. I can’t wait to see how the next story unfolds.
