This is a snail mail geography exchange where we will share information about your State and area with others across the US. There will be roughly 10 people in your group. I will work to ensure that there is the maximum geographical diversity among the different states as possible. Your family will make around 10 copies of a map, illustration, and narration (report) about your State, and mail them by Tuesday, October 15th, to ensure enough time for the mail to deliver them by November 1st. You can see our example from last year below.
The illustration and narration can include landmarks, state bird, plants, flowers or trees, habitat, historical facts and more. You can also include brochures, stickers, postcards, and other memorabilia if it is flat. If you have an idea that you’d like to send through the mail, be sure to check with your local post office on cost before you get started. I’ve found from my annual valentine exchanges, the cost of creativity can sometimes be prohibitive, and this can lead to some heartbreaking disappointments when you discover your creation can’t be mailed.
The deadline for filling out the form to participate is Sunday, September 26th.
You can go ahead and begin working on your maps, illustrations, and reports as soon as you sign up. The addresses and information for the exchange will be sent by Wednesday, October 1st to give you enough time to address and mail the your materials by October 15th. I encourage you to go ahead and sign up now, so it’s not forgotten. If you have any questions, just let me know.
