Day 20

A Gifted Gratitude Garland

On a day when much of what we witness is a celebration of consumerism over connection, and excess over ecology, we long to shine the light of love, and the humility of a grateful spirit into every corner of our home. We can be beacons of hope as those who value simple food, selfless cheer, and the harmonious connection of song above hoarded treasure. Using what we already have to bring a measure of beauty and resourcefulness into the leanest, darkest part if the wheel of the year is a small act of profound joy. Contentment is truly an act of bravery!

Rather than tossing any of your remnants, save leftover wrapping paper, brown paper, or use scrap fabric/felt that you already have in your sewing baskets, and spend some time mindfully cutting some celestial-style stars to string along a piece of twine or extra ribbon. If you have any tiny bells or nature treasures that can be strung between the stars, add these for a measure of delight between each star. Once you have created a garland that stretches to the length of your choosing, coil it up carefully and choose a friend, neighbor, or even a stranger to whom you would like to gift your garland. These can be hung as a bright offering of gratitude for all that we already have, and all that we have been given; they are a gentle way to hope forward to the looming nearness of the New Year and the reminder that Light shines in the Darkness!
