Winter Solstice ❄️
Make or Light a Lantern
“Dreams are like the old stories where wolves are seekers always running, and women carry fire in their bare hands and light the dark paths before them.
Old stories hold that the birds will fly all the miles of the world to tell your secrets to the rising moon, and men will walk over oceans of ice to find one truth.”
― Tamara Rendell, Mystical Tides

My family has a tradition of lighting a wish lantern and sending it up into the winter sky at the solstice each year. One year as a surprise, my husband and I made and lit 100 illuminaries in a spiral to surprise our children before having come out to light the wish lantern.
Our wish lanterns were purchased, but lanterns are easy to make. Here are the ideas for an easy lantern. If it is cold enough where you are, you can even make one from ice.
